Terex: TL120

The TL120 compact wheel loader has a more powerful, Tier 4 Interim, four-cylinder turbo diesel engine, according to Terex. In addition, the loader features the new Terex Smart Control operating system and a quieter cab that offers a better view to the ground for operators. The cooling system is new, as well. Boasting a 101-hp engine, the TL120 has an operating weight of 16,653 lbs. Terex says the TL120 has 16 percent more power and emits 90 percent less exhaust than its predecessor. Further efficiency gains originate from a new operating concept that makes it easier for operators to configure the machine precisely to an application. www.terex.com Keep Reading

Caterpillar: 336E H

Caterpillar's 336E H hydraulic excavator centers on a fuel-saving, hydraulically based energy recovery system that captures and reuses energy, which conventional excavators release in the form of heat. Reduced fuel consumption is the net result – as much as 25 percent less, according to Cat. Fuel conservation begins with the 336E H Electronic Standardized Programmable hydraulic pump, which integrates the machine power sources and matches engine performance to the load encountered. Additional fuel-saving features include three power modes, on-demand power and an engine idle shutdown system. Cat's Adaptive Control System uses a main control valve that optimizes hydraulic performance by intelligently managing restrictions and flows, controlling machine motion and ensuring that hydraulic power is available precisely where and when it's needed. The system also captures kinetic energy from the swing deceleration phase, storing it for reuse. www.cat.com Photo: Caterpillar Keep Reading

Powerscreen

The latest advancement within Powerscreen's crushing and screening equipment is in automation and control systems, simplifying the interaction between operator and machine. Powerscreen implemented a wide-ranging upgrade to its plant control system to coincide with the redesign of its machines to be compliant with Tier 4 Interim emissions standards. According to the company, the upgrade transformed the user interface into a more streamlined and integrated solution. In earlier iterations within the mobile cone crusher range, the system had a multiple-controller setup with different interfaces for engine, cone setting, choke control and machine power. With the latest generation system, all engine and machine functions are controlled and operated on a single, intuitive and graphically driven Human Machine Interface (HMI) color display. www.powerscreen.com Keep Reading

Terex Minerals Processing Systems: Terex Cedarapids CRH1316

Terex MPS has expanded its CR Series portable plant line with the addition of the Terex Cedarapids CRH1316 horizontal shaft impact crushing plant. This large-capacity, highly portable, electric plant features a large undercrusher vibrating pan feeder to accept the high-velocity crusher discharge material and convey it to the straight-line product conveyor. This exclusive design eliminates impact damage to the conveyor belt; it maintains maximum belt tension to prevent slippage, while providing a very large discharge opening to prevent blockages. This new plant also offers a variety of options, including a self-cleaning magnet, electrical panel with hydraulic lift, hinged hopper extensions and hydraulic run-on jacks. To complement the CRH1316, Terex MPS has also released the new CRC380X and CRC450X cone plants and the CRS6203V screen plant. These units can mate up with the impactor plant to create a large capacity closed circuit crushing and screening system without the need of additional interplant conveyors. www.terexmps.com Keep Reading

Loadrite

The Loadrite onboard weighing system allows operators to confidently load each truck to its full capacity. This reduces the cost of fuel, maintenance and labor per ton moved and also helps a quarry to run its crushing plant at full capacity, thereby reducing electricity costs, the company says. These improvements in productivity also help to lower the quarry’s impact on the environment. A Loadrite wheel loader or excavator weighing system calculates the weight of material in the machine’s bucket and displays it for the operator in real time. Loadritescales.com Keep Reading

Van der Graaf: Drum Motor

The Van der Graaf Drum Motor is a one-component conveyor drive where the motor, gear drive, and all moving parts are enclosed inside the drum. With no external motor, gear reducer, sprockets, chain or OSHA-required chain guard, no outward maintenance is required reducing operating costs and improving safety conditions. The new Extreme Duty Mining Series incorporates all these benefits with an unparalleled increase in power and capacity. The durable design is entirely sealed from the most challenging work environments providing a less complex and completely reliable belt drive solution. From ship loading, to power generation, to surface and underground mining, Van der Graaf drum motors are specially engineered to endure any demands of the bulk handling industry. www.VanderGraaf.com Keep Reading

Terex MPS: MVP380X and MVP450X

The Cedarapids MVP380X and MVP450X cone crushers are enhanced with high-speed clearing of jammed material and quick crusher separation capability for faster manganese changes, according to Terex MPS. The 300-hp MVP380X and 400-hp MVP450X incorporate pinned cylinder ends that remove quickly to allow fast cone separation, which results in faster manganese changes and reduced downtime. At the press of a button, fully guided dual-action tramp-relief cylinders provide 6-in. lift for easy clearing of jammed feed material to reduce downtime and increase productivity. The hydro-pneumatic tramp-iron relief system instantly resets the crusher setting after passing non-crushable material without having to activate valves and pumps. A high-flow manifold system with four accumulators provides redundant cylinder protection. The hydraulic-powered threaded upper assembly allows for quick crusher setting adjustment under load. www.terexmps.com Photo: Terex Keep Reading

Lesson 3 – Drilling & Blasting

Take a look at the latest version of this Lesson. When considering drilling in a quarry environment, it is important to analyze not the present needs of the operation, but also the growth path the site will take in succeeding years. Drilling is one of the critical elements in the drilling and blasting process. A blasthole is merely a cylindrical vehicle designed and strategically situated to hold and contain an explosive charge so that it can be detonated in the most efficient and optimum manner possible. No blasting system will be truly effective if the hole is poorly placed; i.e. excessive burden and spacing, sized incorrectly for desired results, insufficient in depth, etc. The drilling phase is the most expensive in the drilling and blasting portion of production, requiring a sizable investment and upkeep. The impact of improper drilling can be felt throughout the remainder of the production cycle, such as excavating and hauling, crushing, screening and so on. The purpose here is to concentrate on some of the factors… Keep Reading

Caterpillar: Product Link with VisionLink 2.7

Caterpillar's Product Link with VisionLink 2.7 enhances the ability of managers to monitor equipment remotely. Product Link’s intuitive interface provides users a mobile-optimized web application, the ability to schedule automated delivery of VisionLink reports, and remote access to onboard payload system information. The mobile application is available on iOS, BlackBerry, Android/Chrome and Windows operating systems. Introductory functionality enables viewing the location of assets on a map, tracking scheduled services, viewing fault codes and open alerts, and accessing idle, working and runtime through a smart phone. New productivity functionality leverages existing onboard payload systems for wheel loaders and off-highway trucks equipped with such systems. Managers can remotely monitor information such as total payload moved per day and total payload per hour and per unit of fuel. www.cat.com Keep Reading
