The Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) renewed its alliance with the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA).

According to MSHA, its alliance program enables organizations committed to mine safety and health to collaborate with the agency to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses. MSHA and its allies work together to reach out to, educate and lead the nation’s mine operators and miners in improving and advancing mine safety and health.

MSHA says its alliance with NSSGA ensures that industry personnel, including contractors, have access to information, guidance and training resources that protect miners’ health and safety.

“MSHA’s industry alliances advance our goal of protecting the safety of miners across the country,” says Wayne Palmer, MSHA assistant secretary. “We look forward to collaborating with NSSGA to address safety issues of particular concern to their members in the aggregates industry.”

The alliance agreement outlines several key provisions, including providing technical assistance to the industry; analyzing data to provide education and training materials; developing and sharing best practices; collaboratively exchanging timely information on injury and employment data; and participating in trainings, workshops, conferences and other opportunities to share information.

“The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association is very pleased to renew our longstanding alliance with MSHA,” says Michele Stanley, president and CEO of NSSGA. “This partnership serves as a platform for sharing best practices, promoting safety initiatives and addressing emerging challenges across the industry. NSSGA looks forward to collaborating with the agency for the betterment of the miners’ health and safety.”
