Great Lakes limestone trade down in April

U.S. shipments of limestone on the Great Lakes in April totaled 1.1 million tons, down 27.5 percent compared to a year earlier, according to the Lake Carriers’ Association (LCA).

U.S. loadings were 35.4 percent below the month’s five-year average.

On the year, LCA says the U.S. limestone trade stands at 1.2 million tons – down 26.6 percent from a year ago and 31.9 percent below the five-year average.

As of April, Canadian ports are no longer supplying information to LCA regarding limestone shipments.
