Terex asks attendees to show how they make America
Terex plans to raise awareness and funds for the Association of Equipment Manufacturers’ (AEM). I Make America campaign 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 4-7 at its booth in the Gold Lot (1047) by encouraging its employees and attendees to put their fingerprints on the company’s I Make America artwork. AEM launched the I Make America advocacy program in 2010 to make Congressional leaders aware of the importance infrastructure plays in the economic strength of the United States. “The idea behind our endeavor to support AEM’s program is to show how critical everyone is in building America’s infrastructure,” says Ron DeFeo, chairman and CEO, Terex Corp. “We invite all show attendees to stop by our booth in the Gold Lot and help us create this I Make America masterpiece.” Each day of the show, Terex will post on its Facebook page the progress made on the artwork. CASE to hold panel discussion about infrastructure
In an effort to highlight the problems facing American infrastructure and what can be done to remedy the situation, CASE Construction Equipment will host a panel discussion in its booth (N-11722) at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 6. Titled Dire States, Politico transportation reporter Adam Snider will be the moderator. The panel will include Jim Oberstar, former U.S. Congressman and chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee; Janet Kavinoky, executive director, transportation and infrastructure, U.S. Chamber of Commerce; Dan McNichol, author and infrastructure expert who recently circumnavigated the country to survey America’s infrastructure and raise awareness to the need for investment/development; and Jim Hasler, vice president, CASE Construction Equipment. The panel discussion serves as a finale to McNichol’s infrastructure road trip throughout the United States to help raise awareness to the crumbling state of the nation’s infrastructure. NSSGA awards Vulcan CEO its highest honor
NSSGA awarded its highest honor -- the 17th annual Barry K. Wendt Memorial Commitment Award -- to Donald M. James, Vulcan Materials Co. chairman and CEO, for his dedication to the construction aggregates industry, his family and his community. “Don James is truly deserving of the Barry K. Wendt Memorial Commitment Award,” says NSSGA President and CEO Michael Johnson. “We are deeply thankful for his commitment to and work for NSSGA. NSSGA’s Pamala Bouchard, vice president of member services, offers a look ahead to the association’s annual convention. The National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association’s (NSSGA) Annual Convention takes place March 3-7 at the Encore Las Vegas. Pit & Quarry caught up with Pamala Bouchard, NSSGA vice president of member services to find out what’s in store for the association’s big 2014 event. W.S. Tyler
The Hydro-Clean washing system from W.S. Tyler can now be mounted on chassis for movement from place to place. Like the original Hydro-Clean, the portable unit cleans deleterious material from aggregate, recycled and other minerals. In the process, W.S. Tyler says the Hydro-Clean uses up to 75 percent less water than traditional washers and 15 percent less energy. Water consumption ranges from 27 to 211 gallons per minute, depending on application and model size. The company adds that up to 90 percent of the total wastewater volume can be recycled and reused in the Hydro-Clean, which requires 10 percent freshwater to operate effectively. www.wstyler.ca Keep Reading
Caterpillar releases first drill in C Series
Caterpillar has released the first of its C Series drills, the MD5150C track drill. Compared with the MD5125, which the MD5150C will replace, the new drill has 18 percent more power, a compressor that can deliver 33 percent more air volume and 40 percent more air pressure, 19 percent faster tram speed and 40 percent greater ground clearance, the company says. The rock drill also features an automated lube system and three different rock drill choices. The standard rock drill on the MD5150C is the HPR5128, which uses 51-mm drill steel. Also available are the HPR6832 Rock Drill, which can use 68-mm speed rod, and the HPR6030 designed for 60-mm drill steel. The MD5150C includes a carousel rod changer that holds six rods and accommodates two lengths and multiple diameters of drill steel. Dual-rod grippers and a gate design let the rod and gate move simultaneously. The rod changer is supported by a sturdy feed and 9-ft boom that extends to 11 ft. for larger pattern coverage with fewer setups.… Keep Reading
Salt Lake City site of SME’s annual meeting
The 2014 Annual Meeting and Exhibit of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) will be held Feb. 23-26 in Salt Lake City. More than 5,500 mining industry professionals from more than 30 countries are expected to attend. “We are pleased to be meeting in Salt Lake City,” says David L.
