Volvo Construction Equipment creates app for customers

Volvo Construction Equipment has created the Volvo CE Insider app that provides North American customers access to the company’s latest news, product information and special offers. “The new Volvo CE Insider app puts helpful information and important functions right at your fingertips,” says Volvo’s Director of digital marketing John Johnston. “Whether in the office or at a remote jobsite, the Volvo CE Insider app has been designed to keep you connected.” The app is available for smartphones and tablets. It provides links to product highlights, attachment and aftermarket options, details on special offers, relevant news, videos and Volvo Construction Equipment’s Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr social media sites. Users can access product specifications, related images and videos showcasing the full line of Volvo machines. As a result, users can compare Volvo machines with equivalent competitor models. Each product model listing includes a compare function that offers a side-by-side view of key specs including driveline, dimensions, performance, capacity and machine weight. Vulcan posts first-quarter gains

Vulcan Materials Co. released its 2014 first-quarter results, revealing total revenue for its aggregates business segment was up 13 percent and gross profit increased 55 percent compared with last year. "Our aggregates business reported solid growth in the first quarter despite extremely cold weather in most of our markets, and we remain confident in the full year expectations we announced in early February,” says Don James, Vulcan’s chairman and CEO. He said the demand for the company’s products in each of its markets continues to build and its operations and sales teams are producing solid margins. “On a 6 percent increase in aggregates volume, our teams delivered a 55 percent increase in aggregates gross profit despite the production and shipping challenges that come with a cold, wet winter,” James says. “Aggregates pricing continues to benefit from improving demand, and we are realizing price improvements across virtually all of our markets.” Overall, the company’s net sales increased $44 million, or 9 percent, and gross profit was up $16 million, or 93… Keep Reading

Caterpillar Global Mining extends Immersive partnership

Caterpillar Global Mining renewed for another five years its exclusive agreement with Immersive Technologies, a supplier of equipment training simulators to the mining and earthmoving industries. Cat will exclusively recommend Immersive Technologies’ high- and medium-fidelity training simulator products and provide the confidential technical information required to develop them. Grasan Equipment names regional sales manager

Grasan Equipment Co. appointed Bill Humphrey regional sales manager for Indiana, Illinois and western Kentucky. Humphrey has 19 years experience serving aggregate customers, the company says. He started his career selling explosives to mining companies, transitioning to equipment sales in 1996. He has since sold and designed significant plant projects, including 1000 tph primary stations, multi-stage finish plants, wash systems and metal recovery and processing plants. Chuck Ferguson, Grasan Equipment’s vice president of sales, says Humphrey’s experience and thorough knowledge of the aggregate processing industry will be a valuable resource for the company and its customers. Performance Truck Opens Texas Kenworth Dealership

Performance Truck opened a full-service Kenworth location in Victoria, Texas. “This new location is ideally situated near Highway 59, a major north-south route from the international border with Mexico in the south, north to Houston,” says Dayne Yeager, Performance Truck general manager at the dealer’s corporate headquarters in Cleveland, Texas. The facility features six service bays, nearly 4,000 square-feet of parts display and storage for Kenworth proprietary and TRP all-makes parts. It also offers parts delivery. “With 5 acres, our new Victoria location can offer truck drivers ample room to maneuver and park their truck and trailer units,” Yeager says. “We’ll also have plenty of room to expand as the business grows.” Performance Truck – Victoria is part of the Kenworth dealer network of more than 345 locations in the United States and Canada. Bosch Rexroth expands hydraulics operation

Bosch Rexroth officially opened its newly expanded hydraulics manufacturing and distribution center in Bethlehem, Pa. The new manufacturing facility houses the company’s valve and manifold manufacturing center for mobile and industrial hydraulics. The new logistics and distribution facility handles shipments to more than 500 customers, including its nationwide network of Drive & Control distributors. The $2.2 million expansion adds about 150,000 square feet, giving the company approximately 200,000 square feet over two buildings for the distribution and manufacturing operation. “Not only is Bethlehem a convenient location from which to serve our hydraulics customers in North America, but this region has also played a major role in Bosch Rexroth’s history,” says Bosch Rexroth Americas President and CEO Berend Bracht. “As our business has grown here over the years, we’ve been able to add good manufacturing jobs for the region’s very capable employee base. offers millions of searchable pages

The Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) says OneMine now offers more than 1.8 million searchable pages of mining-related material to the public. SME says the online library, which it established in 2008, is a collaborative effort among multiple international mining-related societies to place the world's most comprehensive collection of mining- and minerals-based research in one spot. The centralized electronic database contains mining-related research material including technical papers, conference papers and articles produced by organizations throughout the world. Currently, OneMine contains more than 1,813,800 pages in 105,420 searchable documents. “Despite being leaders in their respective fields, many mining and minerals societies and organizations are unable to provide the financial and technological commitment to support robust web-based access to their journals and technical papers,” says SME Executive Director David L. NSSGA offers support for the Grow America Act

NSSGA has offered its support of the Grow America Act, a $302 billion, four-year surface transportation reauthorization bill U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Anthony Foxx unveiled April 29. “We welcome the administration’s involvement in the reauthorization debate through introduction of a multi-year reauthorization bill,” says NSSGA Chairman Paul I. Detwiler III, president and CEO of New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. Inc. “It is essential that Congress act now to address the funding crisis facing the Highway Trust Fund and then move to pass a multi-year reauthorization bill before expiration of the current law on Sept. 30.” The Grow America Act is based on the plan President Barack Obama announced February to address the nation’s infrastructure deficit.
