Eagle Materials acquires CRS Proppants

Eagle Materials acquired CRS Proppants for $225 million. With the acquisition, Eagle will now own CRS Proppants’ northern-white frac-sand mine and processing facility in Wisconsin and utilize CRS’ existing long-term sales contracts with targeted customers. The purchase will be funded by operating cash flow and borrowings under Eagle’s bank credit facility. According to Eagle, the acquisition will also roughly double its frac-sand production capacity and expand its frac-sand reserves. "We are building a low delivered-cost frac-sand supply-system that will serve a number of targeted shale plays with the highest-quality northern white sand,” says Steven Rowley, president and CEO of Eagle Materials. “This acquisition will enable us to immediately serve the Permian basin, in particular, with increased production, while creating synergies with our other operations in Texas that are currently serving the Eagle Ford with sand from our Illinois mine." September construction starts rise 10 percent

According to McGraw Hill Construction, new construction starts in September rose 10 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $604.1 billion. This brought construction activity up to its highest level so far during 2014 and increased the Dodge Index to 128. Nonresidential building experienced a large gain, increasing 15 percent to $228.5 billion. The institutional building group rose 33 percent, while transportation terminal work was up 171 percent. In addition to this, educational facilities climbed 34 percent, healthcare facilities fell 44 percent and the manufacturing plant category rose 105 percent. Nonbuilding construction rose 38 percent at $162.9 billion with the electric utility category climbing 107 percent, public works project types advancing 26 percent and river/harbor development rising 40 percent. Highways and bridges also rose 8 percent. Of the public works category, water supply construction was the only section to lose momentum, falling 27 percent. Gerbus joins IMT as director of sales

Iowa Mold Tooling Co. hired Tim Gerbus as director of sales. As director of sales, Gerbus will be responsible for overseeing the sales team and strengthening the IMT distributor network, as well as customer service and aftermarket support. He will also be responsible for product management and business development. Prior to IMT, Gerbus served as sales manager, director of dealer development and president of Moxy Trucks of America. Caterpillar announces executive shakeup

Caterpillar experienced a change in its executive board with the retirement of two group presidents and a vice president. Stu Levenick, group president with responsibility for customer and dealer support, and Steve Wunning, group president with responsibility for resource industries, have both decided to retire. The company announced that Group President Ed Rapp, who oversees construction industries, will serve as Wunning’s replacement and Tom Pellette, a Cat vice president and president of Solar Turbines Inc., will replace Rapp. Rob Charter, vice president with responsibility for the Excavation Division, will replace Leveneck. Both retirements will be effective in early 2015. In addition to this, Caterpillar has announced the retirement of Steve Gosselin, vice president with responsibility for the Customer Services Support Division. George Taylor, general manager for Cat’s On-Highway Truck group, will replace Gosselin. Gosselin’s retirement will be effective Feb. 1 and Taylor’s role as vice president will be effective Jan. 1. Vulcan to implement new leadership and organization

Vulcan Materials announced a new organizational structure that will be effective Jan. 1. This new structure will place key leaders within the company in seven operating divisions, says the company. The company will now be comprised of its Western Division in California; its Mountain West Division in Arizona and New Mexico; its Southwest Division in Texas and Oklahoma; its Central Division in Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky and Illinois; the Mideast Division in North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Delaware; its Southern and Gulf Coast divisions in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana; and the Southeast Division in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. Senior Vice President Stan Bass will take up leadership responsibilities in the Western and Mountain West divisions; David Pasley will serve as president of the Mountain West Division; Jeff Lott will serve as president of the Southwest Division; David Clement will serve as president of the Central Division; Kim Duke will serve as president of the Mideast Division; Jason Teter will serve as president of the Southern and Gulf Coast divisions;… Keep Reading

Weir Minerals acquires Trio, expands footprint

Weir Minerals acquired Trio Engineered Products, based in Shanghai, China, for $220 million. This acquisition will expand Weir's product line across the global market. The acquisition will be funded from existing bank facilities and is expected to be paid off within Weir’s first year of ownership. With this acquisition, Weir will have the ability to provide a more complete product and service offering, as well as enhance Trio’s equipment revenue growth. The company will also be able to sell its products through Trio’s sales channels in North America and China. "This agreement is strategically compelling for Trio, allowing the company to leverage Weir’s market-leading service center network to accelerate growth and better serve our customers’ aftermarket needs on a truly global basis,” says Mike Burke, CEO of Trio. Terex Finlay intros new equipment at dealer conference

Terex Finlay featured three new products at its global dealer conference in London, United Kingdom. The company introduced to dealers its J-1175 dual power jaw crusher, C-1540 dual power cone crusher and 693+ inclined screen with Spaleck screen box. The dual powered crushers are electrically driven and are fitted with an onboard gen-set. According to the company, the onboard gen-set allows operators to move and use the machine where there is no electric supply. The 693+ inclined screen features a flip-flow top and bottom deck, which guarantees screening of materials such as recycling and skip waste, fines material, compost, waste wood, timber, aggregates and ores, says Terex. At the event, Terex Finlay also previewed a number of prototype machines, including its J-1170AS jaw crusher, V-2050 vertical shaft impactor, C-1554 cone crusher, C-1545 cone crusher and 873 heavy duty screen.
