Superior Industries

Superior Industries’ Trailblazer conveyor can be set up or taken down in as few as two hours. It includes 500 ft. of fully belted and assembled groundline-style conveyor that folds up in a unique accordion style to allow for simpler transportation. It is transported on an attached 84-ft. trailer. Providing this kind of length in a one-load, towable package makes installation as easy as determining a starting point and marking the destination, the company says. Once marked, the truck driver moves forward, and a crew of two to four unloads the conveyor. The crew inserts the supports as the conveyor takes shape, sets take-ups and attaches the conveyor’s hopper. For added productivity, the hopper can be placed at any location along the conveyor. Standard belt sizes are 36 or 42 in. wide by 500 ft. long. Capacity limits range from 1,000 short tph to 1,200 short tph of 100 pounds per cu. ft. density material, with a belt speed of up to 400 ft. per minute. superior-ind.com Keep Reading

Tensar Corp.

The SierraScape Wire-Formed Retaining Wall System features welded wire forms, Tensar Geogrids and a locking tail strut connecting the two. They work together — as a lower-cost alternative to cast-in-place and other concrete retaining walls — to resist differential settlement, seismic activity and heavy external loads. Inert to chemical degradation, the high-density polyethylene (HDPE) geogrids enable a wider variety of fill materials to be used, including on-site soils and recycled concrete. A full range of  services, including engineered drawings and site assistance, is available. With its limited number of components, the SierraScape System is quick and easy to install and maintain, requiring no specialized equipment or labor. Wire forms stack easily to create a uniform wall face that maintains alignment, even with varying setbacks. www.TensarCorp.com Keep Reading

Equipment mix

Improved market conditions create a need for new equipment at CalPortland’s Colton, Calif., operation. As one of the largest and oldest producers in the western United States, CalPortland Co. has irrevocably woven itself into American history with its rich, storied past. Established in 1891, CalPortland Co.’s first operations began in Colton, Calif., with a cement plant that supplied cement for the erection of the Hoover Dam. The company is also famous for the Colton Liberty Flag on top of Mt. Slover, which was first raised in 1917 and at the time was one of only three locations in the United State permitted to fly the flag at night (the other two being the nation’s capital and Frederick, Md., over the grave of Francis Scott Key). The 38-ft. x 24-ft. flag served as a landmark for decades on Interstate 10 until 2013, when it was permanently retired owing to new mining activities on the mountain. The flag now resides at the San Bernardino County Museum. Today, CalPortland Co. is a major… Keep Reading

NSSGA recruits support for MSHA State Grants Program

As Congress works to create a plan for funding the FY’15 budget, NSSGA is working to gain support for funding the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration’s (MSHA) State Grants Program. The program was created in conjunction with the 1977 Mine Act and provides funds for states to provide safety training for miners. Although MSHA reports that the program trains about 80,000 miners annually, the administration proposed eliminating the program. With this in mind, NSSGA has been working to gain congressional support for the program by meeting with the House and Senate Appropriations subcommittees for Labor Department. In addition to this, NSSGA has organized for operator and state association personnel to send letters in support of the funding program. In 2014, the program received $8.4 million from the omnibus appropriations bill. Keep Reading
