DSC Dredge Badger Class dredge
The Badger Class 8-in. x 8-in. cutterhead dredge is ideal for smaller dredging jobs where more compact equipment is required due to work area limitations, DSC Dredge LLC says. With a working width of just less than 10 ft. and an overall length of 54 ft., including the ladder, dredging contractors can maneuver the Badger Class dredge into harder-to-reach waterways that aren't accessible by larger crafts. Yet, the dredge can still dig to a depth of 20 ft. at a 60-degree down angle on the ladder. The lateral cut achieved at maximum depth is about 50 ft., the company adds. The Badger Class dredge is 9 ft., 2 in. tall and can be transported on a single truckload. According to DSC Dredge, the Badger Class dredge is offered in an 8-in. discharge/suction configuration and leverages a three-compartment hull. The unit’s lever room and pump/engine room enclosures are built with 12-gauge plate. dscdredge.com Keep Reading

Van der Graaf Inc.
The Extreme Duty Series of motorized drums by Van der Graaf have increasingly found their way into the harsh and abrasive environment of a quarry. The all-enclosed design reduces downtime cycles and maintenance costs by protecting the motor and gear reducer from dust and rocks. In addition, with 96 percent mechanical efficiency, the Van Der Graaf drum motor uses less energy to move the load. In order to keep the belt clean, Van der Graaf is introducing the RBC (rotating belt cleaner). A spiral brush mounted on the motorized drum, which can be installed under the belt, rotating from 20 to 800 RPM. www.vandergraaf.com Keep Reading
John Deere
John Deere's 460E articulated dump truck (ADT) joins the 370E and 410E in the company's E-Series. According to John Deere, the 46-ton 460E is the largest, most operator-friendly truck it has ever built. The 460E features a 13.5-liter Tier 4 Interim engine with 481 net hp. The ZF transmission includes a high-capacity retarder, eight forward gears and four reverse gears. In addition, new John Deere hauler axles are designed for heavy-duty applications and include on-the-fly differential locks and outboard planetaries. Each axle is independently pressure lubed and filtered. The E-Series axles use internal wet disc brakes that utilize independent cooling circuits. Also, John Deere says allowing the differential-lock system to run in automatic mode will simplify operation for new operators by taking the guesswork out of using the differential locks. www.johndeere.com/adts Photo: John Deere Keep Reading

Tecweigh
The HY15 Hybrid Belt Scale was designed to incorporate the tried-and-true Tecweigh electronics package with the less costly modular scale frame design. The compact, low-profile design is suitable for many conveyor applications (including mobile units). Made with heavy-duty cold rolled steel, the HY15 will withstand the harshest environments. Featuring two NTEP-approved strain-gauge load cells, the HY15 offers a single-idler accuracy of 0.5 to 1 percent. The dual-idler HY25 model provides an accuracy of 0.25 to 0.5 percent. These scales come complete with an installation kit, mechanical overload protection, signal conditioning card and enclosure, calibration weight brackets, speed sensor, WP20 weight processor, and Tecweigh’s standard five-year warranty. For mobile applications, the HY15 offers a unique weighing design. One module is a rigid mount from the idler to the load cell; the other module incorporates a forgiving spherical bearing to greatly reduce drift problems caused by flexing structures. Tecweigh’s Hybrid Belt Scales can also be provided with optional features, including wireless communication, multi-scale processor, printer, remote displays and more. October construction starts fall 4 percent
According to Dodge Data & Analytics, the value of new construction starts fell 4 percent in October to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $589.8 billion, lowering the Dodge Index to 125. October’s construction starts dropped 6 percent from September, with nonresidential building and nonbuilding both losing momentum. Nonbuilding construction decreased 9 percent to $148.7 billion. Most of the decline was due to a 67 percent fall for electric utilities. Despite this, there was an 8 percent rise in the public works group, a 27 percent increase in highway and bridge construction and an 80 percent growth in sewer and waste disposal projects. Residential building grew 11 percent to $245.9 billion. Multifamily housing grew 40 percent and single-family housing remained unchanged. Finally, nonresidential building fell 14 percent in October to $195.2 billion. The decrease was due to a 19 percent decrease in the institutional building group, a 57 percent decline in the amusement and recreational category, a 16 percent drop in transportation terminals and a 23 percent fall in public… Keep Reading
