Dexter + Chaney debuts equipment field entry mobile app
Dexter + Chaney’s new Spectrum Equipment Field Entry mobile application allows users to select a job and view all equipment assigned to it, or view the location of equipment in the field. The app can be used to enter data such as usage hours and odometer readings, and track fuel transaction or amounts of fuel dispensed. It can also track scheduled maintenance tasks, informing users of when maintenance is due and recording when maintenance tasks are completed. The app connects directly to Dexter + Chaney’s Spectrum Construction Software suite, to seamlessly keep financial and project information up-to-date. It can also work offline and sync with Spectrum when connected to the Internet. The app includes Bluetooth capability that enables it to automatically connect and communicate with fuel tank flow meters. It works with tablet devices and iPhone and Android smartphones, and is available at both the Google Play and iTunes app stores. dexterchaney.com Keep Reading
Bearing grease protects in high temperatures, loads
Klüber Lubrication introduces Klübertherm HB 88182 for the longterm lubrication of rolling bearings. The lubricating grease can be used for both low loads combined with high speeds and high loads combined with low speeds. It is fully synthetic and based on a thermally stable base oil, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) thickener and special additives. At high temperatures, the new grease does not form residues like high-temperature greases containing a polyurea thickener, the company says. Klübertherm HB 88182 is resistant to hydrolysis, and protects components against corrosion at high temperatures and in humid environments. It is compatible with elastomer and thermoplastic components and seals. klueber.com Keep Reading

System weighs railcars moving up to 14 mph
LegalWeight, Schenck Process' railcar weighing system, is designed to weigh railcars in motion. The design uses instrumented concrete weighing ties equipped with high-precision load cells that accurately measure vertical force, according to the company. Installation of the weighing system is done without a pit and is mounted directly on top of the ballast, reducing overall installation time to two days or less for most applications. LegalWeight is integrated into the existing rail without any gaps or joins in the rail. Track downtime is reduced compared with older designed pit-type scales, the company adds. LegalWeight can operate legal-for-trade at weighing speeds up to 14 mph. When trains are not being weighed they can travel at the typical line speed for the track. schenckprocess.com Keep Reading
Back to basics: Choosing a screen
Taking a look at horizontal versus inclined screens, as well as the effects of screening motion. Screens are used throughout the aggregate processing flow to separate and size material prior to and following crushing stages. While most producers are aware of the overall process, following is refresher on the types and effects of screen angles and motion. At the primary stage, large scalping screens remove fine material before the feed enters the primary crusher, helping to protect the crusher’s wear parts from abrasive stone or sand material that has already been sized. Without scalping, the primary crusher’s liners wear down faster, requiring more frequent changes and maintenance downtime. Following the primary crushing stage, screens with two or three decks and different opening sizes are used to separate the aggregate material into different size categories – with conveyors transporting the sized material for further crushing or for stockpiling as a saleable product. Usually this screening is accomplished through dry screens. Wet screens may help to remove debris from material before stockpiling,… Keep Reading
Equipment focus: Drilling & blasting
Redesigned cab enhances safety, adds comfort Sandvik’s DR461i drill rig was developed from its predecessor, the DR460. The DR461i is a rotary blasthole drill that can also be equipped to drill via the down-the-hole method. One upgrade on the DR461i is a new cab that’s designed around the operator for maximum comfort and ease of operation, the company says. The windows on the cab were designed with an outward 5-in. tilt, reducing glare from sunlight when it hits the window, helping with visibility and keeping the temperature down in the cab. Also, all equipment was removed from the roof, eliminating the need for maintenance personnel to climb onto it. The cab roof also has a canopy that sits above the actual roof. The air gap between the canopy and the roof helps to keep the temperature in the cab down to a comfortable level. Controls are located on each armrest. A graphical user interface (GUI) system digitally displays the various components of the drill while the operator is drilling or… Keep Reading
