Chris Upp, the vice president and general manager at Conco Quarries, has dedicated 20-plus years to the company, located in the Springfield, Missouri, area, where he's gained experience in operational management for two aggregate sites that produce a combined 2 million tpy of crushed limestone. P&Q: How did you make your way into the aggregate industry? Upp: My dad worked for a utility company, which owned a large open pit coal mine in north central Missouri. I spent time with him at the mine growing up and hunting on the grounds and always had an interest in the large equipment and the process they were using. With an interest in math and science in high school, my dad pointed me toward the mining engineering program at Missouri Science & Technology.
