Terex MPS was also a significant part of the Terex MP showcase, with two new portable crushing plant models launching at the show.

The WG220E portable cone crushing plant and the WV1400E portable vertical shaft impact (VSI) crushing plant are both designed primarily for the European market, according to the company.

Targeting midsize end users, contractors and rental companies operating in quarries or gravel pits, Terex MPS says the new models are mounted on wheeled chassis, towable by conventional trucks and comply with all European road regulations. The company says the plants excel in crushing oversize materials from wash plants or in secondary and tertiary open-circuit crushing.

Both models are electrically driven – either from mains power or a generator – and both feature a feed hopper volume of 5 sq. meters, with a conveyor to feed the crusher and a foldable discharge conveyor for material stockpiling or feeding additional processing equipment.

“There is a growing demand for crushing machines that offer a lower cost per ton compared to traditional tracked diesel crushers – especially for mid- to long-term contractors,” says Paul Lilley, sales director of Terex MPS ERA and CATNA. “Electric machines are more efficient and have a lower capital cost due to the absence of engine and track components.

“With many government contracts now requiring electric-drive machines for environmental reasons, our new models eliminate diesel emissions while also having lower energy consumption,” Lilley adds. “The wheeled plant also provides contractors with the flexibility to move the machine between jobsites without needing a transport company with a lowbed trailer.”

Terex MPS says the WG220E portable cone crushing plant is ideal for secondary or tertiary processing in hard rock quarries, producing aggregates for construction. The WV1400E portable VSI crushing plant, meanwhile, is suitable for producing shaped aggregates for concrete and asphalt, as well as manufactured sand and agricultural lime.

Terex MPS plans to introduce additional crusher models in the coming months based on the same platform as these two models, in a bid to provide a complete range of electric portable crushing plants for the European market.

Material handling development

Also at Hillhead, Eriez unveiled a metal detector that’s tailored for use in crushed stone, sand and gravel applications.

The new MetAlarm metal detector that Eriez launched is specifically designed for installation in fixed-site quarries and mobile crushing plants. Eriez says the metal detector’s detection algorithms are optimized to detect damaging iron and manganese steel, providing protection for crushers, screens and conveyor belts.

“The MetAlarm is a game-changing innovation for the aggregates market,” says John Klinge, director of EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) operations and strategy at Eriez. “It demonstrates our decades-long legacy of boldly pushing boundaries and redefining standards in magnetic separation, metal detection and material handling technology.”

In collaboration with Cardiff University, Eriez developed the MetAlarm to address challenges aggregate producers face. By automating metal detection, Eriez says the MetAlarm enhances productivity and profitability while mitigating the safety and health risks associated with the manual inspection of hazardous materials.

According to Eriez, Heidelberg Materials tested a MetAlarm prototype at a quarry in the UK. Heidelberg Materials reported a reduction in equipment downtime, which boosted production and throughput.

“The MetAlarm has greatly exceeded our expectations not only in terms of performance and reliability, but also in driving better process efficiencies,” says Mike Wilkes, general foreman for the Craig-yr-Hesg quarry at Heidelberg Materials. “Eriez has been a truly invaluable partner, tailoring solutions to suit our specific needs and providing customer service that is second to none.”
