Vulcan Materials Co. made a pair of nationally renowned lists, including U.S. News & World Report’s inaugural Best Companies to Work For and the Fortune 500.

According to U.S. News, its new list provides a look at the 200 best publicly-traded companies to help employees and job seekers make decisions about workplaces that may be a good fit for them. The Fortune 500, which is now in its 69th year, ranks the biggest U.S. companies by revenue.

“At Vulcan Materials Co., we are committed to operating The Vulcan Way – doing the right thing, the right way, at the right time,” says Tom Hill, chairman and CEO of Vulcan, which ranks 494th on the Fortune 500. “These recognitions are a credit to our employees who work each day to deliver value to our customers, communities and shareholders.”

Factors considered as part of the U.S. News review include quality of pay and benefits; work-life balance and flexibility; job and company stability; physical and psychological comfort; belongingness and esteem; and career opportunities and professional development.

“The U.S. News Best Companies to Work For is a recognition that allows readers to determine what they prioritize in a workplace and evaluate companies that might align with those priorities,” says Antonio Barbera, senior editor of consumer advice at U.S. News. “The 2023-2024 list includes companies that score highest on a variety of metrics that contribute to a positive work environment and day-to-day employee experience.”

The Fortune 500 ranking methodology, meanwhile, includes revenues, profits, balance sheet, employees, earnings per share, total return to investors, medians and credits.
