Vulcan Materials operation takes top community relations award

The National Stone, Sand National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) revealed its 2024 Community Relations Excellence award winners, recognizing Vulcan Materials Co.’s Chula Vista Stone in California with the program’s Platinum Award.

The Platinum Award is the highest honor in NSSGA’s Community Relations Excellence program. Vulcan’s Chula Vista Stone was the highest-scoring applicant in the program this year.

In all, NSSGA recognized 94 award winners in its Community Relations Excellence program. Ten operations were honored with Gold Awards while 12 received Silver Awards and 72 were bestowed with Bronze Awards.

“The community relations awards highlight the importance our industry places on being a good neighbor,” says Michael Johnson, president and CEO of NSSGA. “Building and maintaining strong relationships with the community lays the foundation for our members’ success and growth. I’m honored to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of today’s winners.”

Of the 10 Gold Award winners in the program, three were awarded to Martin Marietta (Charlotte Quarry; Hatton Quarry; Onslow Quarry) while another three went to Rogers Group (Deason Quarry; Mitchell Crushed Stone; Oldham County Stone). Other Gold Award winners were Cemex’s FEC Quarry, Holcim’s Marblehead Quarry, Boxley Materials’ (Summit Materials) Arvonia Quarry and Vulcan’s Chula Vista Stone.

Additionally, Cemex’s FEC Quarry, Holcim’s Marblehead Quarry and Martin Marietta’s Hatton Quarry and Onslow Quarry were recognized as Stars of Excellence winners. NSSGA’s Stars of Excellence Award is presented to operations with multiple Gold Awards in safety, community relations or environmental excellence within five years.
