Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe emphasized the importance of transportation infrastructure during a speech to nearly 100 members of the American Road & Transportation Builders Association’s (ARTBA) local chapter, the Metropolitan Washington Road & Transportation Builders Association (MWRTBA).
According to ARTBA, McAuliffe discussed a number of ongoing transportation initiatives taking place in the area, including a $2.5 billion deal for express lanes and area transit from a reformed Public-Private Partnership process. The commonwealth also received a $165 million FASTLANE grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation this year for the Atlantic Gateway Project, ARTBA says. The project will address bottlenecks on the I-95 corridor in northern Virginia.
“My goal is to have a great economy in Virginia and we cannot do it without great infrastructure,” McAuliffe says. “We have literally transformed transportation and road construction in northern Virginia.”
