President Donald Trump plans to nominate Andrew Wheeler, the current acting administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), to be the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) permanent administrator, upon Senate confirmation, reports The Hill.
The announcement came during a Presidential Medal of Freedom ceremony at the White House. Trump said Wheeler is doing a “fantastic job” and “is going to be made permanent.”
A former coal lobbyist, Wheeler was named acting EPA administrator in July following the resignation of then-EPA administrator Scott Pruitt.
According to The Hill, Wheeler will have to await confirmation from the Senate, which confirmed him as the EPA’s deputy administrator by a 53-45 vote in April.
