Passage of a federal infrastructure bill took a step forward Tuesday following a meeting at the White House between President Trump and Democratic congressional leadership.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York) sat down with the president and collectively agreed to pursue an infrastructure deal totaling $2 trillion. Pelosi and Schumer cautioned, however, that the sides had not yet agreed on how to pay for a package, a significant hurdle that will have to be overcome.
Trump, Pelosi and Schumer are expected to meet again in three weeks.
“This was a very, very good start,” Schumer says.
