SME partners with CIM for online learning materials

SME_logoThe Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) partnered with the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy & Petroleum (CIM) to provide an expanded selection of peer-reviewed technical and specialized courses for its members.

According to SME, the learning materials will be provided through the EduMine online training platform. EduMine’s areas of study range from exploration and geology to rock mechanics and hydrology, health and safety, mining and mineral processing, and environment and the community. It includes management certificate programs, as well as live webcasts in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and Mongolian.

“SME looks forward to partnering with CIM and EduMine to provide members with high quality online learning,” says SME Executive Director David Kanagy. “This unique partnership will allow the latest and most important mining concepts to be taught in the broadest form for all those wishing to advance their knowledge.”

The collaborative effort between SME and CIM to provide educational resources for their members will be launched late this summer.

SME is a professional society whose more than 15,000 members represent all professions serving the mining, minerals and underground construction industries in more than 100 countries. Its members include engineers, geologists, metallurgists, educators, students and researchers.

CIM is a not-for-profit technical society of more than 14,600 professionals in the Canadian minerals, materials and energy industries. Its main objectives are to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and technology, foster networking and professional development, and recognize outstanding achievements in the minerals industry. It has 10 technical societies and more than 35 branches.
