The 2017 Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) Annual Conference & Expo and CMA 119th National Western Mining Conference are expanding to include the “Engineering Solutions for Sustainability: Materials and Resources Symposium,” which will be held Feb. 18-19 in Denver.
According to SME, the symposium, themed “Toward a Circular Economy,” will key in on approaches for providing the resources and materials needed to meet mankind’s basic needs in the areas of minerals, metals, energy, water, transportation and housing.
In a circular economy, resources are used for as long as possible with the goal of extracting minimum value from them while in use, SME says. Once the resources are done being used, they are recovered, reused, recycled or stockpiled until economically viable recycling technologies are available. More than 40 experts will discuss how to implement best practices for a circular economy.
SME Annual Conference & Expo registrants will receive a reduced registration fee for the engineering symposium, the organization says.
SME is a professional society whose members represent all professions serving the mining, minerals and underground construction industries in more than 100 countries.
