The Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration’s (SME) 2017 Annual Conference & Expo took place Feb. 19-22 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.
The conference welcomed 6,325 attendees, according to SME. Conference attendees represented 35 countries and every state in the United States, as well as Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia.
The conference started with a keynote speech presented by Douglas Silver, portfolio manager for Orion Mine Finance. His speech, “When are Commodity Prices Going to Rebound?” keyed in on the Great Recession, as well as its impact on commodity prices and the ramifications to the minerals industry.
“The future for the mining industry depends on emerging innovations and technologies,” says David Kanagy, SME’s executive director. “The 2017 SME Annual Conference & Expo offered opportunities for leaders from around the world to share their expertise with the global mining community through 121 technical sessions and two professional symposia.”
SME is a professional nonprofit society with members representing all professions in the mining, minerals and underground construction industries in more than 100 countries.
