NSSGA names 2013 award winners

The Stars of Excellence and Gold Awards in various categories will be presented at NSSGA’s 2013 Annual Convention in San Antonio, Texas, at the Grand Hyatt on Monday, March 18.

NSSGA Two Stars of Excellence recipient winners for 2013 are Cemex’s Center Hill Quarry in Center Hill, Fla.; Granite Construction Co.’s Cottonwood facility in Salt Lake City; and Rogers Group’s Lacey’s Spring Quarry in Lacey’s Spring, Ala.

Three Safety Excellence Award winners will also be honored. Tilcon Connecticut Inc.’s Southington Sand & Gravel, located in Southington, Conn., is being recognized in the small producer category. Vulcan Materials Co.’s Cleveland Quarry in Cleveland, Tenn., is the award recipient among medium-sized producers. Martin Marietta Materials’ Kentucky Avenue Mine in Carmel, Ind., is the recipient in the large producer category.

Three Sterling Safety Award winners will also be recognized in three categories. The award recipient among small producers is Iddings Quarry Inc. in Mifflinburg, Pa. VantaCore Partners in Philadelphia is the award winner among medium-sized producers, and Rogers Group in Nashville, Tenn., is receiving the award among large producers.

Environmental awards will also be passed out at the NSSGA event. The six recipients are Aggregates Industries U.S.’s Accokeek Sand and Gravel, located in Brandywine, Md.; Dufferin Aggregates’ Acton Quarry in Acton, Ontario; Vulcan’s Black Rock Quarry in Black Rock, Ark.; Lafarge North America’s Columbus Quarry in Midland, Ga.; Granite Construction’s Cottonwood facility; and Martin Marietta’s San Pedro Quarry in San Antonio.

Five community relations awards will also be presented. The five operations receiving awards are Cemex’s Center Hill Mine; Rogers Group’s Lacey’s Spring Quarry; and three Dufferin operations the Flamboro Quarry in Hamilton, Ontario; the Milton Quarry in Milton, Ontario; and the Mosport Pit in Orono, Ontario.
