Rogers Group purchased a quarry, sand plant, five asphalt plants and all construction assets of Reed Contracting Services, which is based in Huntsville, Alabama.
According to Rogers Group, Reed has grown to be a leading provider of mass excavating, grading, underground utilities, asphalt paving and trucking services in Huntsville since its inception in 1987.
Rogers Group is currently a supplier of crushed stone in the northern Alabama market and a provider of asphalt paving services in northwest Alabama. Combining the scope and quality of both companies, Rogers Groups says it will now provide seamless, start-to-finish construction and materials services to the greater Huntsville market.
Rogers Group and Reed managers are working to ensure a smooth transition and no interruption of service to customers, the company says.
“Selling to Rogers Group gives me peace of mind that the values and principles I have created at Reed Contracting will live on,” says Mike Reed, owner and founder of Reed. “I am confident the family environment and growth opportunities for our people will continue for decades to come.”
Darin Matson, president and CEO of Rogers Group, also weighed in on the deal.
“This acquisition exemplifies one of Rogers Group’s key growth strategies, which is the acquisition of well-run aggregate and construction businesses closely aligned with our core values and displaying a strong sense of responsibility to the communities where we work,” Matson says. “We could not be more pleased to be able to welcome the Reed employees to RGI (Rogers Group) as we combine our core strengths with theirs, to build upon the fine reputation Mike and his team have created the last 34 years.”
Reed will join Rogers Group’s Southern Division, which is led by division vice president Derek Roberts. Reed will operate under the direct leadership of newly appointed vice president Anthony Garcia.
Rogers Group, founded in 1908, is the largest privately held aggregate producer in the U.S. The company employs 2,700 people across 10 states.
