P&Q visited with several aggregate producers in Utah across a few days in September. Here’s a glimpse at some of the industry leaders we met.
1.) Mike Whitaker, left, and Jim Whitaker represent the latest generation of leadership at employee-owned Whitaker Construction Co. Mike is president and CEO while Jim serves as asset manager. The company, founded in 1953, has a long history in the underground utility construction industry, and it expanded into a number of other areas – aggregate production included – in recent years.
2.) From left: Bolinder Resources’ Bridger and Boone Bolinder offered a look at the plant at their Rocky Ridge Pit located in Tooele, Utah. The brothers represent the third generation of leadership at Bolinder Resources, which has two fixed locations in Utah. Contract crushing is a big part of the Bolinders’ business, as well, with a market focus in Utah and Nevada – but a willingness to crush just about anywhere in the U.S.
3.) Pisgah Stone is a relatively young company with an operation on Mount Pisgah, which, according to Coby Reay (pictured), sits at an elevation of about 6,800 ft. Reay works alongside his younger brother, Zeb Reay. Pisgah Stone has been in operation since 2016.
4.) Dallas Burton is instrumental to Bolinder Resources’ Rocky Ridge Pit, where he serves as the lead man on a four-person crew. Burton has worked for Bolinder Resources across a couple of stints, the latest of which spans about 12 years.
5.) Bryce Childs, general manager of Goodfellow Corp., stands in front of a brand-new FT4250 mobile impactor plant at the company’s branch location in Lindon, Utah. Childs offered a tour of the Goodfellow facility, which offers rock crusher sales, rentals and repairs.
