
General Equipment & Supplies hosted hundreds of people at its branch in Fargo, North Dakota, for a special event in April celebrating the company’s 40th anniversary. The event celebrated the official retirements of Kern and Shilling.

Separately, Montana Technological University’s Underground Mine Education Center (UMEC) received an Epiroc Scooptram ST2D underground loader as a donation earlier this year. Montana Tech adjunct professor Sonya Rosenthal (left) and associate professor Scott Rosenthal spearheaded the initiative to procure the Scooptram ST2D for the university. With a capacity of 3.6 metric tons, Epiroc says the Scooptram ST2D represents a cutting-edge addition to the UMEC’s training equipment.

P&Q managing editor Jack Kopanski ventured to Cartersville, Georgia, for Komatsu’s annual Demo Days event held at the company’s Customer Care Center. Todd Bresemann (left) and Casey Zbinden served as subject matter experts (SMEs) for Komatsu’s excavator offerings. Eight excavator models were on display at Demo Days.

Pictured from left: Aaron Scarfia of Montabert and Matt Buerstetta and Jordan Butler of Komatsu also served as hosts at Demo Days. The three were on hand for the demonstration of Montabert’s demolition and breaking products and the Lehnhoff coupler system.

Sebastian Witkowski, Jarred Hicks, Matt Moen and Nathan Repp, meanwhile, served as SMEs for Komatsu’s loader offerings. Komatsu had four loader models on display at Demo Days.

Additionally, Kopanski was in attendance with P&Q’s Kevin Yanik for the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association’s (NSSGA) Young Leaders Annual Meeting in San Antonio, where many participants ventured to Vulcan Materials Co.’s 1604 Quarry for a tour. Back at the San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk, which hosted the NSSGA Young Leaders Annual Meeting, the magazine caught up with Kraemer Mining & Materials’ Cody Ladd (center), his girlfriend Grace Whitson (left) and Conn Maciel Carey’s Nick Scala.

This year’s Young Leaders Annual Meeting included two service projects that involved many attendees. In one service project, participants built produce bags at the San Antonio Food Bank. Another NSSGA Young Leaders service project benefited the Children’s Hunger Fund.

Also during the meeting, Belt Tech Industrial’s Jordan Russell was honored with the Mark S. Walsh Annual Leadership Award, which is given to an individual exemplifying the ideals of quality, honesty and integrity. The very first Mark S. Walsh Annual Leadership Award was given in 1999, and 23 industry leaders have received it in the years since.
