The South Carolina Aggregates Association (SCAA) hosted its inaugural Workshop & Exhibit near the end of 2021, bringing the aggregate industry within the Palmetto State together for the first time in such fashion. According to SCAA, more than 260 aggregate producers and equipment suppliers attended the event held at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center in Columbia, South Carolina.

SCAA recognized leading producers in the state with awards, including Hanson Aggregates, which received the association’s Gold Environmental Award. Representing Hanson Aggregates were Randy Watkins Jr. (second from left) and Salley Lewis (second from right). Synterra Corp.’s Heather Smith, who heads SCAA’s Environmental Committee, is also pictured (far left) along with Vulcan Materials’ Elliott Botzis (far right). Botzis serves SCAA as president.

Joe Carnahan, vice president of the Southeast Region at Luck Stone, was among those to address attendees at the SCAA Workshop & Exhibit. Carnahan serves the association as workshop chairman.

The Pennsylvania Aggregates & Concrete Association (PACA) also hosted an event – its Annual Meeting – late last year. Amerikohl Aggregates’ Jamie Stilley (far left) received PACA’s newly created Chairman’s Award. Additionally, PACA celebrated the inaugural class of the PACA Emerging Leaders Academy (PELA), which is a 10-month hybrid program consisting of online and in-person educational sessions and networking opportunities for those selected. Sixteen students were chosen to make up the very first PELA class.
