A pair of aggregate producers recently hosted U.S. congressmen at their sites, educating them about their operations and the continuous need for construction materials.
Martin Marietta welcomed Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas) to its Southwest, Cement and Southwest Ready Mix divisional headquarters office in Dallas, according to the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA).
“We appreciated that the congressman took time out of his very busy August recess to visit our divisional offices,” says David Perkins, vice president of environmental, government and public affairs at Martin Marietta’s Cement and Southwest Divisions. “Meeting with Congressman Sessions was a great opportunity to highlight our industry’s importance within the local construction and infrastructure industries.”
Meanwhile, Tilcon New York, a division of Oldcastle Materials, hosted Rep. Josh Gottheimer, (D-New Jersey) at its Oxford Quarry, NSSGA says. Tilcon briefed Gottheimer on how the operation benefits both the local community and local economy, highlighting public works projects and jobs the quarry creates.
In addition, Georgia Construction Aggregates Association Executive Director Jeff Wansley and others met with Rep. Rob Woodall (R-Georgia) as part of a Georgia Transportation Alliance roundtable, according to NSSGA. Wansley expressed support for regulatory reform initiatives recently passed in the House of Representatives and noted a desire for the Senate to follow suit. The meeting focused on transportation investment and tax reform.
