Vulcan Materials received approval for an air quality permit for a limestone quarry near New Braunfels, Texas.
According to the San Antonio Business Journal, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) approved the permit for a Vulcan site that resides between Bulverde and New Braunfels, Texas.
The San Antonio Business Journal reports that all three TCEQ commissioners issued their approval for the plant after an administrative law judge previously ruled that the particulate matter and crystalline silica produced on the site will not exceed state limits.
Vulcan must clear another significant hurdle before the plant can open, though. The company must secure a water quality permit before becoming operational.
Additionally, an opposition group plans to reach out to TCEQ with a motion asking the agency to reconsider its permit decision.
