Ward Nye, chairman, president and CEO of Martin Marietta, earned the 2025 Barry K. Wendt Memorial Commitment Award during the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association’s (NSSGA) Annual Convention in St. Louis.
Mark Krause, outgoing Manufacturers & Services (M&S) Division chair, presented the award to Nye. NSSGA’s M&S Division established the award in 1998 to recognize an industry professional each year who exhibits the dedication exemplified by Barry Wendt, both in commitment to the industry and the community in which they live.
According to NSSGA, the Wendt award is the most distinguished individual award the association presents.
“Ward is well known and deeply admired throughout the entire industry for both his dedication and passion for his work in leading Martin Marietta and his community,” says Krause, vice president of McLanahan Corp. “I am proud to announce him as the 2025 winner of the Barry K. Wendt Memorial Commitment Award.”
Nye’s career in construction materials spans more than 35 years. He has served as Martin Marietta’s chair of the board since 2014, CEO since 2010 and president since 2006. He served as NSSGA chairman in 2017, and he now sits on the NSSGA Executive Committee.
In 2019, Forbes magazine recognized Nye as one of the most innovative leaders in the nation. Nye is also a member of the Pit & Quarry Hall of Fame.
“Barry Wendt’s legacy of dedication and commitment to both the industry and his community is a beacon for all of us,” Nye says. “It is a privilege to be associated with his name through this award.”
