The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) hosted the 2024 Young Leaders Annual Meeting this week in San Antonio, drawing 338 people from around the aggregate industry.

Held at the San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk, the NSSGA meeting featured a series of speakers and interactive opportunities.

Robert “Cujo” Teschner, a retired fighter pilot, teamed with Alamo Concrete Products executive vice president Richard Szecsy to deliver educational insights during one general session, with meeting breakout sessions covering topics such as environmental permitting, drone utilization and best practices to contest Mine Safety & Health Administration citations.

Other opportunities presented to this year’s Young Leaders were a tour of Vulcan Materials Co.’s 1604 Quarry, a golf tournament and a sporting clays outing. Many attendees also volunteered their time for one of two service projects, which benefited the Children’s Hunger Fund and the San Antonio Food Bank.

“Young Leaders is one of NSSGA’s most vibrant programs,” says Michael Johnson, president and CEO of NSSGA. “It is not only an excellent way for those who become involved to invest in their career growth, but also where the future leaders of the aggregates industry accelerate their development. I hope all the meeting attendees grew their network, learned something new and, most importantly, challenged themselves. The future of industry leadership is certainly bright.”

Additionally, Belt Tech Industrial CEO Jordan Russell was honored during the meeting with the Mark S. Walsh Annual Leadership Award, which is given to an individual exemplifying the ideals of quality, honesty and integrity.

The next Young Leaders Annual Meeting will be held in 2025 in Savannah, Georgia.
