The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) and the Wildlife Habitat Council renewed their partnership, which focuses on the enhancement and restoration of wildlife habitats at aggregate operations across the United States.
According to NSSGA, Mike Johnson, NSSGA president and CEO, and Margaret O’Gorman, Wildlife Habitat Council president, signed a memorandum of understanding that outlines the groups’ desire to advance voluntary programs that allow aggregate operations to achieve their business goals, as well as provide environmental benefits to local communities.
“Eight years ago, NSSGA became the first organization to ever partner with the council in this way,” Johnson says. “We are glad to renew this partnership as operators across the country continue to work with the council to demonstrate the industry’s commitment to sustainable environmental practices.”
O’Gorman also looks forward to the renewed partnership.
“The aggregates industry has the largest number of certified operations with us of any industry, and that is something to be proud of,” she says. “When you can leverage nature and biodiversity into those efforts, you’re not only helping wildlife, you’re improving the entire community in which an operation exists.”
The Wildlife Habitat Council promotes and certifies habitat conservation and management on corporate lands through partnerships and education. According to NSSGA, the council’s programs translate sustainability goals and objectives of companies into tangible and measurable on-the-ground actions.
