The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) recognized Rep. Salud Carbajal (D-California) as its Rock Star Award winner at the annual Legislative & Policy Forum in Washington.
NSSGA honored Carbajal for his work championing aggregate industry policy issues on Capitol Hill and with federal agencies.
“Rep. Carbajal’s friendship and leadership in Washington has proven invaluable to our industry,” says Michael Johnson, president and CEO of NSSGA. “He truly understands our members’ unique challenges, and today we are proud to honor him with a Rock Star Award.”
According to NSSGA, Carbajal is a member of several House committees – including Agriculture, Armed Services, and Transportation & Infrastructure (T&I). As vice chair on T&I, NSSGA says Carbajal created jobs by securing investments in the nation’s infrastructure and rebuilding areas damaged by natural disasters.
Additionally, during the 118th Congress, Carbajal contacted the Office of Management & Budget (OMB) about the industry’s Buy America exclusion to ensure it was correctly implemented. Due to his work, NSSGA says OMB was explicit about the exemption in its guidance.
Carbajal also sent a letter to the Mine Safety & Health Administration sharing NSSGA’s concerns about its respirable crystalline silica rule.
Carbajal now serves as the Democratic lead of the new Congressional Aggregates Caucus, which is expected to provide an educational environment for members of Congress and their staffs on industry challenges and policies.
As NSSGA describes, its Rock Star Award is given each year to members of Congress who go above and beyond for the industry.
