The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) is launching “Building to Win,” an initiative designed to revitalize U.S. infrastructure. The initiative was unanimously adopted by the NAM board of directors.
According to the association, it will work collaboratively to encourage the next president and lawmakers to address the United States’ most pressing infrastructure priorities and to ensure that investments deliver world-class infrastructure for Americans. NAM says the initiative identifies serious infrastructure challenges, offers solutions to the problems and provides a number of possible funding options to consider to pay for the more than $1 trillion investment needed.
“America’s infrastructure is vital to the future of manufacturing in America – to acquire materials for game-changing products, to get our employees to work and to transport what we make to consumers in our country and around the world,” says Jay Timmons, NAM president and CEO. “Whether it is the astounding costs borne by businesses and individuals because of delays and detours or the inadequate means to get products to market and keep costs down, transportation infrastructure in America needs both an urgent fix and a modern reimagining.”
Key recommendations from the agenda include implementing strong accountability measures to ensure funds go to projects offering the greatest value for businesses; relieving highway bottlenecks and repairing America’s highways and bridges; creating a long-term funding stream; developing a plan to accelerate the implementation of NextGen air traffic management technology; and more.
NAM also launched an advertising campaign featuring a video (above) that exposes the extend of U.S. infrastructure needs and the opportunity for manufacturers and policymakers to build toward progress.
The National Association of Manufacturers is a manufacturing association in the United States that represents small and large manufacturers in every industrial sector and in all 50 states.
