David Zatezalo, the assistant secretary of labor for the Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA), and Ed Elliott, an MSHA senior advisor, are slated to speak at the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association’s (NSSGA) 2018 Annual Convention, which will take place March 4-7 in Houston.

Zatezalo and Elliott will both be speaking at the convention’s closing general session on March 7. According to NSSGA, during his confirmation process in November 2017, Zatezalo told the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions that he would seek more consistent enforcement from agency officials and improved use of technology to boost safety and focus on safer mining and health behaviors.

Elliott

Elliott, a former director of safety and health for Rogers Group, has a 30-year career in the aggregate industry. He previously served as chairman of NSSGA’s Safety Committee and is a past recipient of NSSGA’s James M. Christie Safety & Health Professional of the Year Award.

Other keynote speakers at the event will include Mike Abrashoff, former Naval Commander and author of “It’s Your Ship,” and Theresa Payton, former White House chief information officer and cybersecurity authority starring on CBS’ “Hunted.”
