The Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) will host an event Jan. 5 on emergency response capabilities.
During the event, hosted at the National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health’s Pittsburgh research laboratory, Joe Main, MSHA’s assistant secretary of labor, and MSHA mine emergency operations officials will deliver remarks and provide an overview on how mine emergency readiness and response has improved over the years.
After the remarks, MSHA will demonstrate several pieces of mine rescue equipment. Some of the new equipment featured will include the newly developed Seismic Location System, which will enable rescuers to better locate miners trapped underground, as well as an improved communications and tracking system. MSHA will also demonstrate mine rescue robots, which can be delayed to enter mine environments deemed unsafe for rescue teams.
