The U.S. Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) proposed a delay in the effective date of its final rule on Examinations of Working Places in Metal and Nonmetal Mines from May 23 to July 24.

MSHA delayed the rule to ensure mine operators and miners affected by it have the training and compliance assistance they need, MSHA reports.

MSHA published the final rule on Jan. 23. The administration is soliciting comments on the limited use of whether to extend the date and whether the extension offers an appropriate length of time for compliance.
