MSHA deputy administrator retires

Marvin Lichtenfels, the deputy administrator for metal and non-metal safety and health for the Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA), retired from the agency.

According to the Illinois Association of Aggregate Producers (IAAP), the position has traditionally been a career civil service position. Lichtenfels took over the position in 2016 after Neal Merrifield’s departure. Emily Hargrove, who has been serving as special assistant to the deputy assistant secretary, has been detailed to that job on a temporary basis.

Hargrove previously worked in the MSHA solicitor’s office, IAAP adds. She is a graduate of George Washington University Law School.
