MSHA announces May impact inspections results

msha-logoFederal inspectors issued 89 citations during special impact inspections conducted at one metal and nonmetal mine and 13 coal mines during May, according to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA).

The inspections took place at mines in Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia and West Virginia.

MSHA’s monthly impact inspections began in April 2010 at mines. They take place at mines that merit increased agency attention and enforcement due to their poor compliance history or other compliance concerns. Since then, MSHA says its inspectors have conducted 1,156 impact inspections and issued 16,315 citations, 1,313 orders and 60 safeguards.
