The Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) tapped Timothy Watkins, deputy administrator for coal mine safety and health, to be the agency’s administrator for coal and metal/nonmetal mine safety and health, Ogletree Deakins reports.
The position is a newly created one by MSHA.
The appointment is part of the agency’s “One MSHA” initiative combining MSHA’s coal and metal/nonmetal sectors. Watkins now has overall responsibility for all enforcement aspects related to coal and metal/nonmetal mines.
Prior to serving as MSHA’s acting administrator for coal mine safety and health, Watkins was the district manager for Coal District 12 in West Virginia.
