In the past 5 years, engineers at Van der Graaf have been working on drum motor designs that can withstand the punishment of dusty and harsh environments. The Van der Graaf Drum Motor is a one-component conveyor drive where the motor, gear drive and all moving parts are enclosed inside the drum. The completely enclosed motor and gearbox design, creates a significant space savings over conventional drives. With the elimination of belts, chains, right-angle gear boxes and coupling, a Van der Graaf Drum Motor reduces energy consumption in some cases over 30 percent. Resulting in lower operating costs, increased productivity and zero downtime compared to conventional exposed conveyor drives.
In order to keep the belt clean, Van der Graaf introduced the rotating belt cleaner. A spiral brush mounted on the motorized drum, which can be installed under the belt, rotating from 20 to 800 rpm, offers a belt cleaning solution to remove residual materials from conveyor belts.
