Metso signed an agreement to acquire Screen Machine Industries (SMI) and Diamond Z (DZ) from Crane Group, an Ohio-based investment company.

Screen Machine offers a range of heavy-duty machines for aggregate crushing and screening applications. Diamond Z manufactures mobile and portable grinders for the infrastructure recycling sector.

The companies will continue to operate independently in Metso’s materials processing products business line.

“We are very happy to welcome Diamond Z and Screen Machine Industries to the Metso group of companies,” says Markku Simula, president of Metso’s aggregate business area. “Diamond Z allows us to extend our offering in the growing infrastructure recycling equipment market, [and the] Diamond Z mobile grinders portfolio provides a great addition to our materials processing products offering.

“Screen Machine Industries enhances our mobile crushing and screening offering and further strengthens our position as one of the leading providers in the field,” Simula adds.

John Lamprinakos, CEO of Screen Machine and Diamond Z, plans to retire upon completion of the deal. Cory LaCrosse, currently CFO of Screen Machine and Diamond Z, will lead the companies as its vice president.

“SMI and DZ employees are excited to join the Metso family,” LaCrosse says. “The acquisition positions both companies for growth opportunities and will enhance our ability to serve our dealers and end users.”

According to Metso, Screen Machine and Diamond Z employ about 190 people with locations in Etna, Ohio, and Caldwell, Idaho.
