Mark Krause, vice president of McLanahan Corp., received the 2026 Barry K. Wendt Memorial Commitment Award during the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association’s (NSSGA) Annual Convention in Las Vegas.
The award was established in 1998 to honor Wendt, who was known in the aggregate industry for his outgoing, friendly disposition and spirited nature. He was a mentor to Krause, who credits Wendt as the biggest influence on him.
“To receive this award, which carries the name of Barry Wendt, is a true honor,” Krause says. “I’m one of the few left active in the industry who not only knew, but worked for, Barry.”
Krause has dedicated more than 40 years to the aggregate industry. He had held a variety of roles, working on the industry’s three key levels: producer, dealer and manufacturer.
“Mark is a leader in the industry, known for his commitment to innovation and the continuous improvement of equipment and processes,” says Craig Lamarque, vice president of digital products at Wirtgen America, who serves as immediate past chair of NSSGA’s Manufacturers & Services Division. “His dedication and ability to connect with others of all levels has made him a respected figure in the industry.”
In his acceptance remarks, Krause referenced Wendt’s three keys to success: product, people and passion. He points to Wendt’s passion as the key he tries to emulate.
“Barry showed that passion all the time, and I hope that throughout my career I’ve been able to show that passion as well,” Krause says. “I have to say I still get excited when I watch rocks go through a jaw crusher. I also still get excited that I can go out and be an ambassador of aggregates for our industry.
“But most of all, I like to give back, and I love giving Crushing 101 [presentations],” Krause says. “It floors me in many ways that people pay to hear me speak. But it’s a chance to give back and show my passion for the industry and what it can truly be.”
According to NSSGA, the Barry K. Wendt Memorial Commitment Award is the most distinguished individual award it presents.
