Liebherr broke ground on a logistics center in Tupelo, Mississippi, with a first phase involving an investment of $176 million that’s expected to create 180 new jobs in the region.

The facility will serve as a continental warehouse of Liebherr-Logistics, supporting logistics and service operations across the Americas.

Initially, the facility will support the distribution of Liebherr products related to earthmoving, tower cranes, concrete technology, mobile and crawler cranes and maritime cranes, as well as components.

“By establishing this facility, Liebherr aims to provide faster and more efficient services to its customers, reinforcing its position as a leader in the industry,” says Joerg Stroebele, managing director at Liebherr-Logistics.

Liebherr expects the facility to later expand and ultimately create more than 300 jobs.

“It’s about creating job opportunities for our people,” says Gov. Tate Reeves (R-Mississippi), who attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the center. “That’s what a great company like Liebherr is going to do here in this community, and that’s something that really gets me excited about this project.”

In addition to the logistics center, Liebherr says it has an opportunity to establish additional facilities on the Tupelo site. The company says its overall investment in the site may total up to $230 million as the campus evolves.
