LCA: Great Lakes limestone shipments dip in October

Shipments of limestone on the Great Lakes were down 3.8 percent in October, totaling 3.2 million tons.

Limestone cargos were below October’s five-year average by 10.7 percent, the Lake Carriers’ Association (LCA) reports.

October loadings from U.S. quarries were down 6.1 percent to 2.6 million tons, while shipments from Canadian quarries dropped 6.8 percent to 626,805 tons.

Through 10 months of 2025, the Great Lakes limestone trade stands at 22.8 million tons – a decrease of 5.6 percent compared to a year ago.  Loadings from Michigan and Ohio quarries declined 4.5 percent from a year ago to 18.6 million tons. Shipments from quarries in Ontario, Canada, fell 10 percent to 4.2 million tons.
