Konya Silica acquired Southern Ohio Sands and Beaver Pike Enterprises, with the companies being unified under a new brand name: Ohio Sands.

The addition of Southern Ohio Sands gives Konya Silica a silica sand resource that can serve industrial applications and the oil and gas market in the Appalachian Basin. The acquisition of Beaver Pike Enterprises, meanwhile, gives the company a bagging facility that enables it to offer products such as bulk wet sand, bulk dry sand and silica gravels up to several inches in size, as well as 50-pound, 100-pound and supersack bagged sand and gravel products.

“This acquisition marks a significant step in our mission to serve the industrial and energy markets across Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York and beyond with premium silica products,” says Anthony Konya, CEO of Konya Silica.

Konya says the company is committed to revitalizing the operations and positioning them as industry leaders.

“We will begin immediately investing significant capital to enhance production capabilities, with plans to achieve a nameplate capacity of over 2 million tons annually by mid-2025, with further plant expansions expected in 2026 and 2027,” Konya says.

Konya Silica expects to begin offering products to the oil and gas market by the start of the second quarter next year.

“This acquisition represents a transformative moment for [the] Appalachian sand marketplace, allowing the extraction of a critical resource and reducing logistical costs for our customers that currently are shipping sand from states such as Missouri and Wisconsin,” Konya says. “With these sites, we are uniquely positioned to deliver unmatched quality and reliability to our customers, while setting new benchmarks in both the industrial and energy markets.”

Konya Silica’s plans include upgrades to stormwater and process water management systems.

“Furthermore, we will implement advanced technologies to minimize air emissions and reduce the environmental footprint of our operations,” Konya says. “These initiatives reflect our dedication to creating a green and environmentally friendly site that not only supports economic growth, but also preserves and enhances the natural beauty and health of the Appalachian Ohio region for generations to come.”
