The Institute of Makers of Explosives’ (IME) senior director of scientific and regulatory affairs, Joshua Hoffman, received the ISEE President’s Award at the opening session of the International Society of Explosives Engineers (ISEE) 2024 Annual Conference.
A professional engineer and licensed blaster, Hoffman is a lifetime member of ISEE and has served on a number of the organization’s committees.
“IME is thrilled that Josh’s many positive contributions to a safer and more secure commercial explosives industry are being recognized by his industry peers,” says Clark Mica, IME president. “This week, Josh celebrated his six-year anniversary at IME and his longtime commitment to expanding the knowledge of our industry and sharing his expertise has helped improve our overall safety posture as an industry. IME and our entire board of governors are proud of Josh’s accomplishments and congratulate him for earning this well-deserved award.”
Over the past two decades, Hoffman’s work has contributed to and preserved the body of knowledge surrounding commercial explosives through his publications on detonator accuracy, blast mitigation, warheads, detonics and public perceptions of the mining and commercial explosives industries, according to IME.
As IME’s senior director of scientific and regulatory affairs, Hoffman serves the organization’s members and the industry by applying his technical expertise to positively impact public policy and ensuring the technical accuracy of IME’s tools and resources that support the safe and secure manufacturing, transport, distribution and use of commercial explosives, IME says. This extends to the international community where Hoffman represents IME, an officially recognized non-governmental organization by the United Nations, by serving as the Secretariat to the UN’s Explosives Working Group.
“ISEE is pleased to recognize Josh’s contributions and service to our organization and its membership,” says Steve Shivak, ISEE executive director. “He’s been a fantastic partner who has selflessly given his time and technical knowledge to our organization and our industry as a whole. ISEE congratulates him on this well-deserved award.”
