Hurricane Matthew wreaked havoc last month along the East Coast, and Martin Marietta Materials Inc. is among those cleaning up from the storm.
According to the Triangle Business Journal, Martin Marietta CEO Ward Nye addressed the hurricane’s impact in a conference call related to the company’s third-quarter performance.
“While some of our East Coast facilities experienced flooding, sporadic power outages and minor equipment damage, we were able to slowly and systematically resume sales at the vast majority of our affected locations, a testament to the resiliency of our operational teams,” Nye says.
Martin Marietta’s Benson Quarry in North Carolina was especially affected, Nye says, but the site is still operational from upper benches.
In terms of cleanup efforts, Martin Marietta is prepared to help its affected markets recover.
“We stand ready to provide help in terms of materials and support those who need it so our neighbors can get the relief they need to start anew,” Nye says.
According to Nye, the storm could lead to long-term opportunities for Martin Marietta.
“From our perspective, we think there’s going to have to be a lot of maintenance and repair there,” he says.
