Holcim offered insights about its first-quarter performance and markets around the world, noting that sales in North America declined slightly.
Specifically, Holcim says its North American net sales to external customers decreased 5.8 percent in the first quarter. The company, however, says underlying market demand allowed it to achieve a 3.9 percent EBIT increase.
Like Cemex, Holcim says the first quarter presented fewer shipping days and adverse weather conditions in North America.
Across all markets, Holcim says net sales were down 2.4 percent in the first quarter although its recurring EBIT was up 7.8 percent.
The company also made five acquisitions across its global markets in the first quarter and closed on four divestments.
“I thank all members of the Holcim family for driving the strong start to the year,” says Jan Jenisch, chairman and CEO of Holcim. “This quarter’s performance, with a significant contribution from Solutions & Products, demonstrates the strength of our market-leading positions.”
