Hitachi Construction Machinery Americas highlighted an array of new technology during MINExpo International 2024, which was hosted last week at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The company focused on several goals at the show, including forging a path toward a zero-entry mine. In pursuit of this goal, Hitachi showcased its new automated haulage system (AHS).

As Hitachi describes, safety is a primary concern when people work close to mining equipment. Mine site automation, such as driverless automated haul trucks, can limit employee exposure.

The Hitachi AHS combines digital technologies and Wenco International Mining System’s fleet management system to enable uncrewed truck operation at open-cut mining pits. The system optimizes route navigation, acceleration and braking for decreased life-cycle costs, Hitachi says.

The company’s AHS allows mixed-fleet integration with manned fleets while transitioning from conventional to autonomous operations, open interoperability to optimize across your entire truck fleet and the ability to retrofit existing trucks.
