Hanson Aggregates donates reclaimed mine property

Hanson Aggregates’ sand and gravel facility in Bennettsville, South Carolina, donated about 200 acres of reclaimed mine property to Carolina Waterfowl Rescue, a nonprofit wildlife rescue organization that provides sanctuary, rescue and rehabilitation for wildlife, farmed and exotic animals.

The company will be hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Carolina Waterfowl Rescue on Nov. 8 to celebrate the property’s transformation. According to Lehigh Hanson, the ceremony will include guest speakers, property tours and a catered lunch.

Carolina Waterfowl Rescue cares for more than 1,000 birds a year, covering close to 40 different wild bird species. The donated property will be used to provide a natural and controlled habitat – called a rookery – to rehabilitate injured waterfowl.

Hanson Aggregates is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lehigh Hanson, a North American supplier of aggregate, cement, ready-mixed concrete and asphalt.
