Shipments of limestone on the Great Lakes totaled 3.8 million tons in June, a slight increase from a year ago, according to the Lake Carriers’ Association (LCA).
June’s loadings were also above the month’s five-year average by 2.2 percent.
Loadings out of U.S. quarries totaled nearly 3 million tons, an increase of 11.5 percent compared to 2021. Shipments from Canadian quarries totaled 829,618 tons, a decrease of 25.2 percent, LCA says.
On the year, the Great Lakes limestone trade stands at nearly 9.7 million tons. The total is down 2.5 percent compared to 2021. 2022 loadings from Michigan and Ohio quarries are up 1.7 percent from a year ago while shipments from quarries in Ontario, Canada, total 2.1 million tons – a decrease of 15.4 percent versus 2021.
