Great Lakes limestone shipments trailing last year’s pace

Limestone shipments on the Great Lakes are down to start 2025, with the Lake Carriers’ Association (LCA) reporting a 21.6 percent decline in April.

LCA says April shipments totaled 1.8 million net tons. They were down by 15.7 percent versus the five-year average.

Shipments from U.S. ports were down 18.2 percent, totaling 1.5 million tons. Loadings at Canadian quarries decreased 35.3 percent to 297,064 tons.
